Treasurer’s Report and Minutes of Previous Meeting:
Motion byWalschburger, 2nd by Kivelato approve the Minutes and the Treasurer’s Report as printed. Voice Vote. Motion Carried.
President – Steve Rayne:
Retired Lt. Mark Montgomery is a candidate for HPOPS Retired Board of Director position held by Terry Bratton. He will speak at the general membership meeting.
HPD appointed Sheryl Victorian as the new Assistant Chief.
HPD Officers have traveled to Puerto Rico to assist in hurricane recovery.
61 Riesner is completely closed due to hurricane Harvey. Contractors are working to restore the air conditioning.
HPOU is getting ready for contract negotiations with the City. There may be a clause in the contract that retirees under age 65 will pay the same insurance rates as active officers. The Burial Fund is also working with HPOU to be part of the negotiations in order to maintain the future of the fund.
HPROA Bi-Laws state a budget be presented in December. It is recommended the budget presentation be postponed until January when all the 2017 financial information is available.
? Motion by Potell, 2nd by Ashby to extend the HPROA Budget proposal until the January 11, 2018 Board Meeting. Voice Vote. Motion Carried.
There will be a 3% increase in the cost of printing the Retired Badge.
The 911 Heroes Run at City Hall is 8:30am Saturday, November 11, 2017. The City coordinator promised two 10x10 tarps and a good location for the HPROA table. We have an 8’ HPROA Banner and the traveling memorial wall.
Each year HPROA makes a donation to Sacred Hearts Whitney Oaks for allowing the Board of Director to meet once a month at their facility.
? Motion by Zoch, 2nd by Kivela to donate $300 to Whitney Oaks for allowing the HPROA Board of Directors to meet once a month at their facility. Voice Vote. Motion Carried.
Executive Director – Bill Elkin
Pension value at $4.6B with an almost 17% return on investments. There have been 56 retirements since July 1st,with 13 in November and 6 scheduled for December.
There are over 9,000 active, retired and spouses receiving HPOPS benefits. There are 779 HPD Officers with 20 years of service and 437 with 30 years of service with many 50 years of age or older.
HPOPS will be sending a mail-out for Board Candidates Terry Bratton, Dwayne Ready and Mark Montgomery.
Pension Obligation Bonds passed by a wide majority. PAC donated $10,000 to Lift Up Houston and $2,500to Texans for Secure Retirement to help get out our message.
Texans for Secure Retirement have dissolved their PAC but will continue in existence. Recommend we continue the $250 membership fee, as they are active with the State and Teachers Pensions. It will be important to keep contact with TXPERS and TSRas we will always have to monitor activities in Austin.
Submit budget information before the December meeting.
The 2018 Hill Country Reunion in Fredericksburg will be Saturday, October 6, 2018.
The 2018 Houston Reunion will be held at the HPD Academy on Saturday, April 28, 2018.
