Robert Leo Horton, Jr. (Bob) of Spring, Texas, left this life on June 7, 2012, at the age of 73. Bob's parents were the late Helen and Leo Horton of Houston. He was a loving and adored son, brother, husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, great- grandfather, uncle and friend. Bob loved people of all kinds and enjoyed having them in his home and cooking for them. Even during years of poor health, he wanted friends and family around him and could entertain them wonderfully with his stories, some of them even true! He especially enjoyed trading jokes with his grandchildren.
In 1960 Bob followed his father's footsteps and joined the Houston Police Dept., where he served 28 years in the Accident Division, investigating hit-and-run accidents. That same year he married Susan Sullivan, and their marriage was strong for over 51 years. For the past 41 years he and Susan have resided in Spring, and they have spent most summers in Chimney Rock, CO where they finally bought a small home in 2001. There are eleven families who live on the country road on which Bob and Susan lived in the summer and autumn, and he knew every one of them and shared such good times with them.
Bob loved fishing, hunting, camping, golf, the Houston Oilers and the Houston Texans. The years that Houston had no football team were trying for him and he was a true blue Texans fan.
Over the years Bob was blessed with brilliant and caring physicians who saved his life more than once. The family wishes to especially thank Dr. Vincent Aquino, Dr. Mohsin Bajwa, Dr. Michael Chang, Dr. Clifford Kitten, Dr. Gina Khraish, and Dr. Christopher Kwoh. We would also like to commend St. Luke's Hospital in the Woodlands and VITAS Hospice for their compassionate care.
Survivors include his devoted wife Susan, son Robert III, daughter Lisa and her husband John Simmons, granddaughter McKenzie, grandchildren Sarah and Justin Galloway, great-grandson Justin Roop, brother Bill and his wife Carol Ann, nephews Keith and Kevin Horton, and step-grandsons Andrew and Adam Simmons and their families.
On Saturday there will be a small, private family burial ceremony.
On Monday, June 11, at 11:00 a.m. all family and friends are invited to a memorial service at April Sound Church, 67 1/2 April Wind South at Hwy. 105 in Montgomery, TX. Reverend Scott Harbison, Bob's good friend and fellow Texans fan, will officiate. Following the service, we will celebrate Bob's sweet life with a luncheon at John and Lisa's home in The Cliffs at Lake Conroe. If attending the service, please feel free to wear Houston Texans tee-shirts or jerseys, as will his family.
Bob will always and forever be loved and missed. We'll see you on the other side, our beloved, good man.
