Retired Captain Jack R Hamel passed away on Sunday, January 17, 2021, at the age of 83. He joined the Houston Police Department on November 28, 1959, Academy Class #23. During his tenure with the department, he was assigned to the Central, Vice, Homicide, Northeast, Northwest, Southeast, Burglary and Theft, Records, and Eastside Divisions; also, Office of the Chief of Police, and Organizational Development Command. Captain Hamel retired in Command of the Air Support Division on April 1, 1995.
A Memorial Service will be held at a later date.
