James Bird, HPROA Member, 86, of Giddings are scheduled for 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 9, 2013 at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Giddings with Rev. Robert Tiner officiating. Burial will immediately follow in the Giddings Memorial Park. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 8, 2013 from 7:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. and on Wednesday, October 9, 2013 from 7:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Giddings. The Bird family will be present for visitation Tuesday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.

Mr. Bird passed away on Saturday, October 5, 2013 in Pearland, Texas.

James D. Bird was born on April 25, 1927 in Stockdale, Texas to Clyde O. & Bessie Mae (Leasman) Bird. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII and achieved the rank of Technician 5th Grade before receiving his Honorable Discharge on September 6, 1946. He was united in marriage to Adeline Wachsmann on April 26, 2010 in Giddings, Texas. Jimmy had retired as a Sergeant with the Houston Police Department after 40 years. He was also a security officer with the Baylor College of Medicine for 38 years. He was a member of the Houston Retired Police Officers Association and the Salt Grass Trail Association. He enjoyed trail riding, boating and building things.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde & Bessie Bird; his son-in-law, Billy Ogden and his sister, Doris Cherry & her husband, Ernest.

Jimmy is survived by his wife, Adeline Bird of Giddings; his daughter, Linda Ogden of Pearland; his son, Jerry Bird of Pearland; two grandsons, Robbie Tidwell & his wife, Gloria of Nixon and Terry Tidwell & his wife, Joy of Sealy and five great grandchildren.

Serving as pallbearers will be Josh Tidwell, Robbie Tidwell, Terry Tidwell, Austin Tidwell, Myron Siegmund, Clifton Wachsmann and Justin Behrens.

Memorials may be made to the Immanuel Lutheran Ladies Aid, 300 North Grimes, Giddings, Texas 78942 or the charity of one's choice.
