James A. Jenkins

James A. Jenkins (1-5-2017 nf) HPROA member HPROA 4.jpg , passed away on Wednesday, January 4, 2017, at the age of 76. He joined the Houston Police Department on November 6, 1961, Academy Class #25. He was promoted to the rank of Sergeant on July 8, 1972. Sergeant Jenkins was assigned to the Criminal Intelligence Division upon his retirement on June 8, 1982. He is the father of Retired Senior Police Officer James A. Jenkins, Jr, last assigned to the Training Division, and Sergeant Matthew J. Jenkins of the Burglary and Theft Division. 

James Albert Jenkins died on January 4, 2017 at age 76. A long-time resident
of Fort Davis, TX, James lived a life of keen curiosity, strong opinions,
and big ideas. After retiring from the Houston Police Department as a
Sergeant in the Criminal Intelligence Division, James was a Pastor for the
Friends Church in Hutchinson, KS. He purchased the Stone Village Motel in
Fort Davis and later sold the business to write and publish West Texas
tales. In his spare time, he became an expert on birds and an avid collector
of fruit jars. James leaves behind a brother, six children, many
grandchildren, and his kind and supportive Fort Davis neighbors who sharedtheir garden harvests and friendly conversations.

The family will hold a memorial service at a later date.
