Richard Sumner, a member of the HPROA passed away on Monday, September 30, 2019, at the age of 79. He is survived by his wife, retired Senior Police Officer Sharlot Sumner, who retired on June 3, 2005. He is preceded in death by his brother-in-law, retired Sergeant Billy “Bill” Fain. He is also the father-in-law of Sergeant Daniel Salinas, assigned to the Downtown Division and the uncle of Police Officer Douglas Howton, Jr., assigned to Northeast Division and the uncle-in-law of Police Officer Katelyn Howton, assigned to the Eastside Division. He joined the Houston Police Department on September 4, 1963, Academy Class #26. During his career with the department, he was assigned to the Central and Northwest Divisions until his retirement on January 29, 1993.
The body is entrusted with Brookside Funeral Home, 13747 Eastex Freeway, Houston, Texas 77039 (281) 449-6511. A visitation will be held at Brookside Funeral Home on Friday, October 4, 2019, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m.
A Funeral Service will be held at Brookside Funeral Home on Saturday, October 5, 2019, starting at 2:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Brookside Memorial Park, 13747 Eastex Freeway, Houston, Texas 77039 (281) 449-6511.
